![]() ![]() Pikmin 3 begins with a crash landing on a foreign planet. Again it’s a nice to have for fans that may have played the game on Wii U, or newcomers to the series who want to get sucked into the world.įans have been waiting eagerly for the past ten years for the third entry into the Pikmin franchise. The original version of the game was on the easier side, but Ultra-Spicy takes it up a notch, leaving you with less Pikmin, meaning that you’ll need to strategise a lot more than you do in the regular mode.Īnother really cool addition is the Piklomedia, which tells you a bit of information about all of the creatures that you come across and gives you some pretty nifty stats. They don’t add a huge amount to the game, but it’s nice to have some new content given this is a full-priced release.Īnother reason to grab the game on Switch for those that played the original is the new Ultra-Spicy mode. In terms of new features, there’s local co-op for the entire main story, which is definitely a fun and frustrating experience and there’s also a series of side missions that see you take the role of either Olimar or Louie. Nintendo obviously knows that with the recent boom of the Switch, there’s going to be a lot of newcomers to the series, so this is hugely appreciated. ![]() There’s a brand new hint system in the game, which I would have really appreciated when I was playing the game on Wii U (without a lot of prior experience in the first two games). It’s nowhere near as accurate or easy to use as a Wiimote, but it definitely gets the job done. You can use the motion controls in the Nintendo Switch to act as a pointer. ![]() If you feel like you can’t play Pikmin 3 without a Wiimote, you’re in luck, kind of. It can still feel a bit awkward at times, but it’s a huge improvement over what it was and will make the game more accessible to so many more players. The game has a brand new lock-on system on Switch, which allows you to quickly lock onto enemies and move between them without fumbling around. Looking back though, the game definitely had issues largely due to the Wii U gamepad. If you really want to be caught up before Pikmin 4 arrives, there’s also Pikmin 3 Deluxe which launched on the Switch back in 2020, an enhanced port of the Wii U threequel which originally launched in 2013 followed by Hey! Pikmin on the 3DS in 2017.I’ve never been the biggest Pikmin fan but thoroughly enjoyed the game on the Wii U. In order to make the wait for the new game easier, Nintendo released remasters of the first two Pikmin games on the Switch digitally earlier this year, with a physical release for both due in September. They’re new for this latest entry, and can help out in a variety of ways such as smashing through barriers that the Pikmin can’t, and carrying you and the series titular creatures on his back. Luckily, not only do they have the seed-creatures known as Pikmin to help them out, but they also have Oatchi the Rescue Pup. In case you’re not up to speed, Pikmin 4 will see players take on the role not of the familiar Captain Olimar, but a new custom recruit of the Rescue Corps who were on a mission to save the series’ longstanding hero until they themselves crash landed on this mysterious planet. Will it help bolster Nintendo’s incredible 2023 following Tears of the Kingdom, or at least help bridge the gap first-party fans have to wait before two Mario titles? We don’t have long to find out, as the Pikmin 4 review embargo is on Wednesday 19 July at 6am PDT / 9am EDT / 2pm BST / 3pm CEST / 11pm AEST. The fourth entry in the series is almost upon us, and naturally long time series stalwarts and those new to Pikmin alike are interested to know how the new game holds up. Nintendo Switch fans are bracing themselves for the return of the most adorable garden-dwelling aliens later this week, which naturally means the Pikmin 4 review embargo isn’t far behind.
